Vascular and Interventional Radiology
Interventional Radiology uses minimally invasive procedures with the use of image guidance (CT scans, ultrasounds, and x-rays). Interventional Radiology can be used in treatments for a wide variety of cancers, tumors, biopsies along with placement of an array of central venous lines for dialysis.
Interventional Radiology also includes the evaluation of the circulatory system through angiography, treatment of blockages of the arteries using balloon angioplasties or stent placement and diagnosis and treatment of venous disorders including varicosities and blood clots. This specialty is key in diagnosing and treating cerebral aneurysms and vascular malformations, acute stroke, compression fractures of the spine, and many other minimally invasive procedures.
In women, Interventional Radiology helps with the treatment of infertility, chronic pelvic pain and uterine fibroids in women.
