Spine Care

Spine care is a multidisciplinary medical field focused on the diagnosis and treatment of conditions affecting the spine. Our specialists, board certified in physical medicine and rehabilitation (PM&R), sports medicine, pain medicine, orthopedics, and neurosurgery, collaborate to offer a comprehensive approach. This includes both non-surgical treatments like rehabilitation and pain management as well as surgical options such as laminectomy, disc replacement, or spinal fusion when appropriate.

At the core of our approach is a commitment to delivering compassionate, personalized care that goes beyond just medical treatment. We believe in open communication, empowering patients with information, and shared decision-making. Our dedicated healthcare professionals work together to ensure a comprehensive, patient-centered experience. This means looking beyond just the physical aspects of health to also address the emotional and psychological dimensions.

With a focus on empathy and respect, we work to create a supportive environment where patients feel heard, understood, and confident throughout their journey back to optimal health and recovery.

Comprehensive Evaluation

Our team thoroughly evaluates each patient to develop an individualized treatment plan that includes discussion of both nonsurgical and surgical treatment options.

Non-Operative Care

Our pain medicine, sports medicine, and physical medicine and rehabilitation (physiatry) specialists oversee an array of nonsurgical treatments to help patients improve pain and function without surgery. These may include:

  • Medications to reduce inflammation and pain

  • Physical therapy to improve strength, flexibility, and function

  • Spinal injections such as epidural steroid injections or joint injections to directly deliver anti-inflammatory medication

  • Ablation procedures to disable pain transmission

  • Referrals to other specialists for manual therapy, chiropractics, pain psychology, and/or advanced pain procedures, such as spinal cord stimulators

We closely monitor patient progress through nonsurgical care and adjust approaches as needed to optimize results.

Surgical Care

If nonsurgical options do not adequately relieve pain or restore function or are necessary to repair an injury, our skilled neurosurgeons and orthopedic spine surgeons discuss a wide array of surgical options. Procedures may include:

  • Spinal fusion to join vertebrae together for stability

  • Microdiscectomy to remove a damaged portion of a disc

  • Disc replacement to remove damaged discs and insert artificial ones

  • Laminectomy to relieve pressure on nerves by removing bone and tissue

  • Corpectomy to remove damaged vertebrae in the neck or back

  • Kyphoplasty to repair spinal fractures

Our surgeons utilize state-of-the-art minimally invasive techniques when possible to minimize trauma and facilitate faster recovery. They work closely with our physiatry specialists to ensure coordinated care before and after surgery. When surgery is required, we partner with our Anesthesia, Medicine, physical/occupational therapy, social work and other teams to optimize peri-operative care. This approach has been utilized to improve outcomes in all phases of surgical management.
