My clinical interests are in mechanical circulatory support, heart transplantation, extracorporeal membrane oxygenation, and surgical critical care. Other interests include minimally invasive coronary surgery and surgery for atrial fibrillation.

My research interests include the deleterious effects of cardiopulmonary bypass, outcomes of patients after cardiac surgery, and cardiac surgery clinical trials. I have published extensively on all aspects of the perioperative care of cardiac surgery patients. My particular areas of interest include resource utilization, operating room and hospital efficiency, and quality improvement in critical care.
